light at the end of the tunnel...or is that a train?
For all the acclaim Jeff Tedford gets for resurrecting the Bears, he's also a study in the dangers of running an offensive-minded program. If your QB gets hurt or has a bad day (as happened the past two weeks), your championship hopes are ruined. This happens to Cal almost every year.

Cal is reeling, going from No. 2 to No. 18 after two straight losses. Now it's off to take on unbeaten Arizona State, but history says Cal will bounce back: the Bears have never lost three straight under Jeff Tedford, bouncing back from consecutive losses by winning by an average of 15.6 points.

don't you love the life you kill...
i never thought i'd say this, but thank god it's monday; the weekend from hell is finally over. and it started off so well, too. i drag my ass out of bed at seven in the morn (and you know how hard that is for me when i'm at home) to watch man city beat birmingham city and stay third in the league. and then it all went down hill from there. cal loses again (!@#$%^&*), raiders drop a close one, the galaxy miss the playoffs, and the lakers lose to the friggin clippers. how i wish i didn't care.

first and ten on the twelve, fourteen seconds on the clock, no time outs, no open receivers. do you:
a) spike it

d) try and make run for it against the number two rush defense in the pac 10 because you're the second string quarterback and that makes you invincible
we had two weeks to prepare, and this is all we have to show for it? c'mon tedford, you can do better than that. i know everyone says you're too conservative and want to see more gutsy calls, but that was just stupid. a field goal would've put us into overtime. oh well. number one cal had a nice ring to it. i swear, if we have to play in the holiday bowl again, i'm gonna be pissed. bumped into some peninsula alums at the game; that was cool. go panthers!

and because it's raining cats and dogs...
oddly enough i'm not happy right now, for a myriad of reasons, not least of which is the fact that the performance of king lear that i was watching (starring ravi kapoor aka crossing jordan's "bug" in the role of edmund) was rained out midway through the second act. i suppose this would be more representative of my current state of mind:
because there's a f***ing h in it
the funny part isn't the fact that he's in drag; he does that all the time. i'm sure it was funny the first couple hundred times, but now i think he does it because if he doesn't he'll be pelted with tomatoes. either that or he really likes it.

i think that just about says it all. to give it a little perspective, at the end of last week, tom dienhart of the sporting news made the following comment at the end of his week 5 awards:
they shoot horses, don't they? stanford at usc
and here's the best headline i saw out of all the newspapers in the racks:
