the voice of summer
being a dodger fan is an experience like no other, because we have vin scully, and listening to him, even something as simple as a little two minute introduction for joe torre's press conference today, gives me goosebumps. you can check out the full press conference on the dodgers website, or you can listen to scully's intro here.
"Hi, everybody, and a very pleasant good morning to you. Welcome to Dodger Stadium, on what the Irish would call a soft day. Although the calendar says 2007, you really do get the feeling that this is 2008, cause this is the beginning of a year we're all really looking forward to. We'll be celebrating our golden anniversary of this pioneering franchise, that came to the golden west fifty years ago, and over those years winning nine pennants, and five world championships, with seven managers, two of whom spent forty two years at the reins. Both of those managers are now in the Hall of Fame, and now, today, we welcome the eighth manager in the history of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was a formidable foe, and he has now become an integral part of the Dodger family. As a player, well, let's look at it: nine times an All Star, Gold Glove, MVP winner. And as a manager, as we all know, twelve consecutive years in the playoffs, and four World Series. So we firmly believe that his day will come, when he goes to that pretty little town in northern New York called Cooperstown. That'll happen. He embodies all of the values that define the Dodgers at their best, and as someone who has known him for so many, many years, I can't tell you how happy, delighted I am that he will finally wear the Dodger uniform. And it's only right, since the roots of the franchise are also his roots, the Borough of Churches, the Borough of Brooklyn."
